Caseworker - Disaster

Job Description

Staff position with responsibility for providing Client Services to disaster clients. This includes conducting an assessment and verification of disaster losses, interviewing the disaster client, discussing with the client which disaster related needs can best be met by American Red Cross. Completing all necessary forms, issuing Client Assistance Card and/or Disbursement Orders, as well as, making referrals to other community based agencies for those disaster related needs not met by the American Red Cross. Provides technical assistance to the Disaster Action Team (DAT) members and other disaster volunteer caseworkers. Provides assistance with the delivery of all other services as needed. Work throughout all categories of disaster providing Red Cross support as needed. Night, evening, weekend work required as well as ability to travel occasionally and carry out disaster assignments. Maintain DSHR membership with unrestricted travel. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:

Bilingual in English & Spanish preferred. Knowledge of Red Cross Programs and Services. Ability to work with people under stressful situations. Ability to maintain confidentiality and Possess valid Texas Drivers License.

Ability to use MS-Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. Ability to maintain a computer data base.

Education Required:

Bachelor degree preferably in Behavioral Science

Location: 2700 Southwest Freeway

Position Type: Full Time

Travel Required: 10% of the time (approximate)
